Good News for People with Severe Nearsightedness
This is a great procedure for patients who are extremely nearsighted and outside the range of LASIK. Verisyse™ is an intraocular lens implant for patients over 21 years of age who have a prescription greater than -5.00 diopters to -20.00 diopters of myopia with 2.50 diopters or less of astigmatism correction. This allows the patient to have more natural vision without the need for heavy glasses or the hassle of contact lenses.
Lenses are available in a range of prescriptions, allowing the vision to be corrected for a range of nearsightedness. If any residual vision correction is needed after the eye has healed, LASIK may then be performed (available without any additional cost).
How Verisyse™ Works
The procedure involves placing the Verisyse™ Phakic IOL behind your cornea and on top of your iris. This gives your eye another focusing lens that provides high-quality, high-definition vision like a normal eye. Although the Verisyse™ Phakic IOL is intended to be permanent, the procedure is reversible if desired.
The word "phakic" means that your natural crystalline lens is left in the eye. This is important because your natural lens plays an important role in helping your eye adjust between seeing objects that are near and far.

How To Qualify For This Procedure:
• You must have a stable cornea and refraction - if you wear contact lenses you must come out of them until your cornea stabilizes.
• You must have no eye disease including cataracts, retinal disease or detachment.
• You will need multiple measurements to accurately calculate the lens power. This will involve multiple office visits.
• You will need to take off at least 3 days from work for each eye after surgery
• You will need to take all medications as directed and return for follow up examinations as required.
• You may have to wear glasses and or contact lenses after surgery and you may need further surgery (LASIK or PRK) after this implant to achieve your best visual potential.
• This is an Intraocular surgical procedure and has the inherent risks and benefits of any other intraocular surgical procedure.
About The Verisyse™ Procedure
Implanting the Verisyse™ Phakic IOL is an outpatient procedure that takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes. One eye is treated at a time.
• Drops will be placed in your eyes in order to reduce the pupil size.
• A local anesthetic is given to numb the eye, so the procedure is virtually painless.
• You are prepared for sterile surgery.
• A small incision is made in the cornea for the Verisyse™ Phakic IOL to be placed in the space between the iris and the cornea.
• The Verisyse™ Phakic IOL is centered in front of the pupil (the black part in the center of your eye), and is gently attached to the iris (the colored part of your eye) to hold the lens in place.
• The small incision is closed with microscopic stitches.
• A temporary eye shield will be placed over your eye to protect it for the first eight hours.
